MS Dhoni will play at least next couple of IPLs – VVS Laxman

Former Indian batsman VVS Laxman believes MS Dhoni can go on to play at least next couple of seasons of the Indian Premier League. Dhoni hasn’t played any professional cricket in the last nine months and he was looking forward to leading Chennai Super Kings in the IPL.

However, now the tournament is hanging on by a thin thread due to the outbreak of coronavirus. Meanwhile, MS Dhoni has been at his best while playing for CSK in the IPL. Dhoni has led the franchise to three IPL titles and the club had made a roaring comeback in 2018 when they were able to go all the way in the competition.

Dhoni has shown great form in the last two seasons of the IPL. The right-hander had played a major role in the success of the team in IPL 2018 as he scored 455 runs in 16 matches. Furthermore, he took his team to the final of the last season and scored 416 runs in 15 matches.

Dhoni is still fit as a fiddle despite he will turn 38 in June. The former Indian captain has a lot of emotions with Chennai Super Kings as he has led them in 10 seasons. Similarly, Dhoni has received a lot of love and admiration from the Chennai fans.

“I think, playing for CSK will keep him going because he’s supremely fit and age is just a number, and especially when someone like MS Dhoni is not only physically fit, but mentally very astute as a captain as a leader he enjoys leading the CSK franchise,” Laxman said on Star Sports’ Cricket Connected show.

“Not only this IPL, he will probably play in the next couple of IPLs, and then we will take a call about his future as a cricketer”.

MS Dhoni has been known to get the best out of his players. There is no doubt that he will look to continue playing for CSK as the team is very close to his heart. However, his return to the national side looks bleak at this stage with the IPL 2020 hanging fire.

Dhoni has played 190 IPL matches in which he has scored 4432 runs at an impressive average of 42.21 and a blistering strike rate of 137.85. The wicket-keeper batsman has scored 23 half-centuries in the tournament. There is no doubt that if Dhoni can keep himself at the top of his game and fitness, he can play the IPL for the next few seasons.
