Former Indian batter Sanjay Manjrekar questioned India’s batting coach role in the team after India lost four quick wickets on the third day’s play against Australia at the Gabba, Brisbane. On a start and stop kind of a day because of persistent rain, Indian batters failed to get off to a good start after Australia posted 445 runs on the board.
Yashasvi Jaiswal, Shubman Gill, Virat Kohli and Rishabh Pant were all dismissed after managing a single-digit score. Manjrekar was not pleased after Virat Kohli was dismissed for the umpteenth time while fishing at the outside off-stump delivery.
Kohli was dismissed after scoring only three runs while trying to play a cover drive on a ball, which was the seventh stump line against Josh Hazlewood.
“I guess the time has come to scrutinise the role of a batting coach in the Indian team. Why major technical issues have remained unresolved for so long with certain Indian batters,” Manjrekar wrote on X.
Furthermore, Shubman Gill was dismissed while chasing a wide delivery as he was caught brilliantly by Mitchell Marsh at gully. Yashasvi Jaiswal could not keep the ball down and had a soft dismissal against Mitchell Starc. To make matters worse for India, Rishabh Pant was nicked off by Pat Cummins at the fag end of the day before rain came to India’s rescue.
On the other hand, Australia posted a par score of 445 runs after Travis Head and Steve Smith scored 152 and 101 runs respectively on the second day’s play. The duo added a gargantuan alliance of 241 runs for the fourth wicket after Australia were struggling at 75-3.
Once again, Jasprit Bumrah was the pick of the Indian bowlers, returning with impressive figures of 6-76.
