Indian opening batsman Prithvi Shaw has admitted that he lost a bit of focus after he was hit on the head by Dushmantha Chameera in the first ODI against Sri Lanka at R. Premadasa International Cricket Stadium, Colombo on Sunday. Shaw was going at blistering pace as he was able to hit the ground running.
The right-hander scored two boundaries in the first over and then scored three consecutive boundaries against Isuru Udana. Shaw was timing the ball with perfection and played some flamboyant drives through the off-side. The right-hander scored 43 runs off just 24 balls before he was dismissed while trying to play a big shot against Dhananjaya de Silva on the first ball he faced against the spinner.
“It’s fine now (about the blow to the helmet). Rahul (Dravid) sir didn’t say anything when I went in. I just went with my instinct and waited for the loose balls. Obviously I wanted to keep the scoreboard ticking. Pitch was very nice. The pitch was good in the first innings, and it got better in the second innings. And I like facing fast bowlers. I was disappointed with the shot when I got out. I lost a bit of focus after I was hit on the head,” said Prithvi Shaw in the post-match presentation ceremony.
Shaw came to the crease with a positive attitude and took the attack to the opposition. In fact, Shaw has been batting in the same fashion in the recent past and he is not afraid to get out. The 21-year old was awarded the Player of the match as well.
The right-hander has gained a lot of confidence as he is in sublime form in the recent past. The talented batsman scored 827 runs in the eight matches of Vijay Hazare and ended as the highest run-scorer of the tournament.
Shaw then continued his good form in the IPL as he amassed 308 runs in eight matches of IPL 2021 before the season was postponed by the BCCI.
The second ODI between India and Sri Lanka will be played at the same venue on Tuesday.
