Steve Smith pleased after his drought-ending ton on day 2 of BGT 2024-25 3rd Test

Australia’s veteran batter Steve Smith was delighted after ending his run-drought in the third Test of the Border-Gavaskar series against India at the Gabba, Brisbane on Sunday. Smith has been under the pump for his ordinary form in the recent past and he could only aggregate 19 runs in the first two Test matches.

The experienced batter admitted he had the rub of the green on his side at the start of the innings. Smith went on to score a fantastic knock of 101 runs off 190 balls with the help of a dozen fours and this was his 33rd Test century. The right-hander was particularly aggressive after the tea break and scored his runs all around the dial.

The talisman also added 241 runs for the fourth wicket with Travis Head to put Australia in a commanding position. Australia were 75-3 when Head joined forces with Smith and the duo batted at the top of their game.

Smith said as quoted by Sydney Herald, “I’ve played long enough to know the game turns. You’ve got to keep the faith. I rode my luck today, got beaten a few times … on another day I might nick one. I felt like I was playing well. It was nice to get some rewards. It’s been a little while. It was cool to contribute today. I had a couple of nice balls and got strangled down the leg side. I feel like I’ve been batting well the last month. I’ve been trusting it will turn around.”

On the other hand, Travis Head scored a magnificent knock of 152 runs off 160 balls as he continued his purple patch against India, scoring his second consecutive century of the series.

Australia ended the second day’s play at 405-7 with Alex Carey and Mitchell Starc unbeaten at the crease.
