India’s wicket-keeper Rishabh Pant has shed light on India’s squad in the ongoing T20 World Cup. As the pitches in the West Indies are conducive for the spinners, Indian selectors picked four spinners in the squad – Ravindra Jadeja, Axar Patel, Kuldeep Yadav, and Yuzvendra Chahal.
India played their two bowling all-rounders – Ravindra Jadeja and Axar Patel – in the first three matches in New York. The Rohit Sharma-led also played three frontline pacers in Jasprit Bumrah, Mohammed Siraj, and Arshdeep Singh.
Rishabh Pant said while talking to ICC, “As a team, we had discussed that this is the leg where spin will play a big part and that is where I feel Rohit Bhai got an extra spinner in the team. But at the same time as a team, we are taking one match at a time and giving our best at a given day.”
Furthermore, Pant also showered praise on Ricky Ponting. Pant is leading Delhi Capitals in the IPL under the tutelage of the former Australian captain and said that the veteran backs him to the hilt.
“I know he (Ponting) is someone who always has my back. If I have some thought process or I want to discuss something, he is always there. Not only this year, he has been there around for a while. Always good to have him on my side,” Pant said.
“He (Ponting) will give you his insights but he will also let you make your own decisions. Unless your decision is not personal, you will not trust your process. He is always there to correct me if I go wrong,” he added.
Meanwhile, Pant played a crucial knock of 42 runs off 31 balls against arch-rivals Pakistan and helped India in posting 119 runs on the board.
India will next take on Canada at the Central Broward Regional Park Stadium Turf Ground, Lauderhill, Florida on Saturday.
