The football world came to a halt after Denmark midfielder Christain Eriksen collapsed on the pitch during the team’s maiden match of Group B Euro 2020 against Finland. Eriksen collapsed before the end of the first half with no Finland players around him and didn’t respond for a couple of minutes.
Referee Anthony Taylor was quick to halt the proceedings and wasted no time in getting the medical help. Danish players formed a huddle around Eriksen as he received medical attention from the experts on the pitch.
Eriksen was given the CPR on the pitch and one of the photographers noticed that the midfielder had raised his hand before he was taken off to hospital with players covering around him with flags for privacy.
The whole sporting world, including big names like Cristiano Ronaldo, put on tweets and prayed for the well-being of the Inter star.
The good news is that Eriksen is now stable and he is doing well in the hospital after receiving treatment.
UEFA provided the first update on Eriksen’s status, saying in a tweet: “The player has been transferred to the hospital and has been stabilised.”
The Danish FA also sent out a tweet saying: “Christian Eriksen is awake and is undergoing further examinations” at the hospital. E
Eriksen’s agent Martin Schoots told Dutch radio station NPO Radio 1 that Eriksen was awake, saying: “I’ve been in contact with his father for a while and he says that Christian is breathing and can talk, that’s the good news. He is conscious, but everyone is in shock. His girlfriend is with him.”
Meanwhile, Christain Eriksen played an instrumental role in helping Inter Milan lift the 2020-21 Serie A title. On the other hand, Denmark dominated the possession by 70% against Finland but the latter won the game by 1-0 to earn crucial three points.
