The 62nd match of the ongoing Hero Indian Super League ended in 1-1 draw at Fatorda Stadium on Sunday as ATK Mohun Bagan and FC Goa shared a point each. Edu Garcia gave ATK Mohun Bagan the lead when he scored from a free kick in the 75th minute.
However, FC Goa got the equalizer when young 22-year-old Ishan Pandita scored for his club. But FC Goa head coach Juan Ferrando wasn’t every pleased with the end result as his team had eight shots on target. However, they couldn’t convert them against ATK Mohun Bagan.
“We had eight shots on target. It is wrong when we do not have any clear opportunities. But I think that the high press of my team was very good because ATK Mohun Bagan could not play. In the midfield also the press was good. Just one detail, in transition we lost the ball and gave away the foul but the opponents scored a nice goal. We always want the three points. We had more chances so at the end a draw is not good enough for us,” the Spaniard said at the post-match press conference.
Meanwhile, Ishan Pandita impressed as he equalized for the Gaurs after coming as a substitute. However, Ferrando wants to see Pandita improve his game further before he can start in the final XI of the team. Pandita scored his second goal of the season and he will look to keep taking the giant strides.
“I am talking with him everyday. He is good in set-pieces and in positional attack but he needs to work …The important thing for me is to help players like Ishan and Devendra (Murgaokar),” said Ferrando.
On the other hand, ATK Mohun Bagan head coach Antonio Lopez Habas was satisfied with the end result. Lopez noted that his team had a chance to win the game but couldn’t grab their opportunities.
“The final scoreline is a fair one. We had chances to win the match but we couldn’t score the goal. After that, in one set-piece they drew. For me, I want to win the three points but even one point is very important for us,” the Spaniard said.
FC Goa will next face Kerala Blasters on 23rd January at the GMC Stadium, Bambolim whereas ATK Mohun Bagan will next lock horns against Chennaiyin FC at the Fatorda Stadium on 21st January.
