Indian Super League side FC Goa have announced the signing of former Kerala Blasters winger Nongdamba Naorem. The youngster has signed a long term contract after he passed the medicals with flying colours.
The 21-year-old was delighted to join FC as he told the official website, “Today is a big day. I am very happy to sign for one of the biggest clubs in India. It’s a club that I feel is the best fit for me and is one that I have admired for a long time. I am now looking forward to understanding what the coach demands from me and scripting a new chapter in my life.”
FC Goa are known for their knack of developing and nurturing young Indian stars and Naorem joins an army of youngsters. FC Goa Director of Football Ravi Puskur was also very happy that the Guars have managed to rope in the talented winger. He said, ““We’re delighted to secure the services of Nongdamba Naorem. He’s a highly technical player and has the directness needed in one on one situations for a player in his position.
“He caught our eye with his performances for Mohun Bagan in the I-League in the 19/20 season and was unlucky to have his season curtailed by injury last year. We feel that he can develop into a player who fits very well into our system and can become a differential player with a real emphasis on providing the end product.”
Naorem rose through the ranks at Minerva Punjab. His consistent performances at age group tournaments saw him get a callup from the Indian U-17 national team which represented the country at the FIFA U17 World Cup in 2017. After his gig with the U-17 side, he joined the Indian Arrows and then he was roped in Kerala Blasters. He was immediately loaned out to Mohun Bagan and there he showed his magic. The youngster was a pivotal player in then Mohun Bagan coach Kibu Vicuna’s plans. He along with his current teammate Romario Jesuraj guided the Mariners to the I-League title in the 2019-20 season.
Last season he could only feature in three matches for the Blasters before getting injured. Hence this time round he is keen to give his best for the Gaurs.
