American legendary player Serena Williams has decided to pull out of the forthcoming US Open 2021 due to a torn hamstring. Williams, who has all the experience under her belt, took to her Instagram handle to share the update with her fans.
Williams was last seen in action in Wimbledon two months ago but she had to pull out of the first round of the iconic event due to her ankle injury. The 39-year old has won a total of 23 Grand slam titles in her glorious career and thus she is one away from matching Margaret Court’s record of 24 slams. Thus, she will have to wait for the Australian Open for a chance to level with former great.
“After careful consideration and following the advice of my doctors and medical team, I have decided to withdraw from the US Open to allow my body to heal completely from a torn hamstring,” Serena Williams announced on Instagram.
“New York is one of the most exciting cities in the world and one of my favourite places to play. “I will miss seeing the fans but will be cheering everyone on from afar. Thank you for your continued support and love. I’ll see you soon.”
In fact, the veteran player hasn’t won a slam title after winning the Australian Open back in 2017. Furthermore, she has even failed to win a single set in her last four Grand slam finals.
Earlier, Roger Federer and Rafael Nadal had also withdrawn from the US Open due to their respective injury woes. It will be the first time since 1997 that none of Federer, Nadal and Williams will not be seen at a Grand slam.
Meanwhile, Serena will aim to make a solid comeback in 2022 and she will look to be at her best in the next season.
