My main target is to help the team with my experience: Igor Angulo

Mumbai City FC talisman striker Igor Angulo has stated his main target is to help the team with his vast experience. Angulo has all the experience under his belt and he will look to deliver the goods in the ongoing season. The Spanish striker has an impeccable record in the Indian Super League as he has scored 14 goals in 21 appearances for the Gaurs.

The 32-year old was awarded the Golden boot award in the previous season. Angulo is known to be at the right place at the right time, which is the key to any striker’s success.

Angulo will represent Mumbai City FC in the ongoing season and he revealed his targets with the club.

Angulo said while talking in the press conference, “My personal target is always to help the team as much as I can. Obviously, I’m a striker so I should score goals, but I can’t say any concrete number of goals. My main target is to help the team with my experience, my skills, with everything. Most important are the common targets for me to join Mumbai City FC: to win the ISL and the trophy”.

Meanwhile, Mumbai City FC was able to go all the way in the previous season as they had defeated ATK Mohun Bagan by 2-1 in the final of the tournament. Angulo also disclosed the reason which prompted him to join the reigning champions.

Angulo added, “After a good season for me, I moved to Mumbai City FC. This club was the only place I wanted to be as it was the best club last year, they won everything. I’m extremely proud to join them and I hope this season will be even better than the last one. This season, I’m here to help them [Mumbai City FC] achieve everything like they did last year, and I believe we have a good team and enough squad depth to do so”.

The linchpin forward also revealed his experience of playing for FC Goa in the previous season. Angulo had played a crucial role in taking the Gaurs to the semifinals.

Angulo concluded, “Last season was incredibly good, better than I thought it would be. At the end for my club, for FC Goa with my appearance in the semi-finals, we lost on penalties against Mumbai City, and I also got the Golden Boot and some other trophies during the season. So, overall, I was very happy with my performance. This means my job was very good and journalists, players, and everyone recognized it. I was immensely happy to come here last year, I enjoyed the country and the league which was quite successful for me”.

Mumbai City FC will begin their Hero ISL 2021-22 campaign against FC Goa at PJN Stadium, Fatorda on Monday.
