A look at the rise of Rashid Khan from 2018

Indian golfer, Rashid Khan will never forget his success last year when he staged one of the best comebacks on the Asian Tour.

Despite the comeback, the young golfer missed validating the big ‘W’.

He finally got to where he wanted in 2018 after finishing inside the top-60 in five straight seasons on the Asian Tour Order of Merit. He is now a two time winner of the tour.

Although, he made the cut in 11 out of 19 events he participated in, the failure to make the top ten during the season fetched him about US$44,000 and lost his card after finishing 81st in the rankings.

He was however given the opportunity in the 2019 season on the ground of country exemption, but had no starts in the big co-sanctioned events early in the season, having been used to playing in it. But he didn’t allow the opportunity to slip in his national Open and he finished tied-10th in the Hero Indian Open in late March.

He continued from where he left off with another good result in Bangladesh during the week that followed. He emerged second runers-up in the Bangabandhu Cup Golf Open with nine in the final round, finishing with two strokes behind the winner.

Khan ensured to get through to the top ten six times in his full 2019 Asian Tour season, after playing 11 events.

With this success where he finished tied-second in the Classic Golf and Country Club International Championship in India, he easily kept his card and smiled to the bank with over US$140,000 in the process.

Before the coronavirus enforced break, Khan had begun his 2020 campaign in scintilating form finishing sixth and tied-eighth at the Hong Kong Open and SMBC Singapore Open respectively.

He is presently 10th place on the Order of Merit.

It is expected that Khan will continue from where he stopped once the action resumes.
