Rafael Nadal’s coach Carlos Moya has played an instrumental role in the success of the Spaniard since he has taken over the mantle from Toni Nadal. Moya had joined Nadal’s team in 2016 and since then he has been able to get the best out of his ward in the major tournaments.
Moya has guided Nadal on the right path despite the injury setbacks and the left-hander has always given credit to his coach for his success. However, Moya has confirmed that he won’t be travelling with Rafael Nadal for the Australian Open 2021 due to Covid-19 pandemic.
Moya has decided to stay with his family in Spain and he will follow the first slam of the year from home. The coach gave his best wishes to Nadal and the team as he took to Twitter to share the news.
Moya post read as, “After speaking with Rafa,we have decided that I won’t travel to Australia with the team.I will follow the tournament from home and will stay with my family, parents and kids due to the delicate situation that Spain is living with the virus. Best of luck to the team!!”.
Meanwhile, Carlos Moya has done a fine job for Rafael Nadal. Moya has been able to manage Nadal’s injuries with guile and he has got the best out of the champion. In 2017, Toni Nadal stepped down from Nadal’s head coach role and the baton was passed to Moya. Since taking over from Nadal’s uncle, Moya has helped the champion player clinch six slam titles.
It would be interesting to note how Nadal will handle himself without the presence of his head coach. Nadal has all the experience under his belt and he would aim to make the most of it.
The Australian Open will begin from February 8 and Nadal will also represent Spain in the ATP Cup, which will take place just before the AO.
