The Canadian number one Denis Shapovalov is seeded fifth at the Masters 1000 event and will face either Yoshihito Nishioka Frances Tiafoe of USA in his first match.
Denis Shapovalov says he is ready for any player. The Canadian number one is ready to express himself as much as he can during the tournament. Shapovalov showed his potential against Novak Djokovic in the Wimbledon 2021 semi-final. Though the Canadian lost the game eventually, he gave world no.1 a good run for his money.
As per Punto de Break, the 24-year old Canadian showed confidence in his abilities. “I showed everyone that I can play against any player. I had a great game against Djokovic at Wimbledon”, says Denis Shapovalov.
The youngster also believes that his game is good enough to win tournaments. “I felt that my game was really at the level necessary to reach the final and even be able to lift the title. But in front of me I had a player of the stature of Djokovic who, although he does not always play at his best level, he can come out victorious because he has that winning aura of great champions”, further quotes Shapovalov.
Shapovalov had a great run in Wimbledon where he reached the semi-final. Though he lost the semi-final against world no.1 Novak Djokovic 7-6, 7-5, 7-5, who eventually went on to win the championship. Still Denis Shapovalov received a lot of positive response and feedback for his fearless approach by the world no.1 Novak Djokovic.
In fact, Denis Shapovalov had a good chance to even beat Djokovic as he had dominated the second set but could not win the crucial points of the game and the Serbian was able to hold his nerves because of his vast experience.
