Former World No. 1 Roger Federer didn’t play any Tennis after February and pulled himself out of the whole season as he went under the knife for arthroscopic surgery on his right knee. Federer will be back for the next season and he will take part in the upcoming Australian Open 2021.
However, it isn’t going to be easy for the 20-time Grand slam to hit the ground running upon his arrival. Federer is already 39 years though the champion has always shown that age is just another number for him.
In fact, it was expected that Federer’s career was all but over in 2016 when he suffered a knee injury. However, the Swiss made a roaring comeback into the game as he won seven titles in 2017 and once again proved his mettle in the Tennis world.
However, former Italian player Paolo Bertolucci believes it is going to be very difficult for Federer to replicate the 2017 heroics as everybody is also four years better. Federer has all the experience under his belt but the competition has got tougher.
In fact, the Big three – Federer, Rafael Nadal and Novak Djokovic are continuously challenged by young players like Dominic Thiem, Daniil Medvedev, Alexander Zverev and Stefanos Tsitsipas, who have all the skills to go a long way in their career.
Paolo feels Federer’s success upon his return will depend on his form and it will be interesting to note how he will take the challenge.
“It’s very, very difficult, because it’s been four years, but it’s also true that for others it would be twice as much. Yes, he [Federer] will have a chance too, but we have to see at what level he will be able to express himself, how he will return after the operations,” said Bertolucci.
The Tennis fans are eagerly waiting for Roger Federer to get back on the court and once again give them the memories to cherish.
