India’s fast bowler Mohammed Siraj stated that it was his dream to play in the T20 World Cup.
But the fast bowler could not find a place in India’s 15-man T20 World Cup squad as the selectors went with the experienced trio of Jasprit Bumrah, Mohammed Shami, and Bhuvneshwar Kumar.
There is no doubt that Siraj has improved significantly in the last couple of years and has taken giant strides since making his Test debut in Australia in 2020. Furthermore, Siraj had also done a good job while playing for Royal Challengers Bangalore in the first phase of the IPL 2021. Siraj scalped six wickets in seven matches and bowled with an impressive economy rate of 7.34.
Meanwhile, Siraj has played only three T20Is in which he could only take three wickets and conceded his runs at a high economy rate of 12.33. Thus, Siraj doesn’t have a lot of experience in the shortest format at the International level and thus he was ignored by the national selectors despite his improvement as a fast bowler.
Siraj told Sportstar, “Well, the selection is not in our hands. It was certainly a dream to play in the T20 World Cup. But, again, that is not the end of it all. I have many more goals – the biggest being to play a lead role in helping the team to win matches.”
“I will take things as they come for I believe in destiny and be content in whatever opportunities I get even as the pursuit for excellence at the highest level continues.”
On the other hand, Siraj added that he wants to guide Hyderabad to a major title after taking International experience. Siraj had always impressed as a red ball bowler in the domestic circuit and he is now a much-improved pacer after getting International exposure.
“It is one of my dreams to play a lead role in guiding the team to a major title triumph in domestic cricket. It was disappointing that we are not in the Elite Group of Ranji Trophy too. So, I want to give more than 100 percent and help my team script a few big wins.”
Siraj will now be seen playing for Royal Challengers Bangalore in the second phase of IPL 2021. RCB will resume its campaign against KKR in Abu Dhabi on 20th September.
