Hyderabad FC head coach Thangboi Singto has called for more finesse and clinicality after a 2-0 loss against FC Goa in the ongoing Indian Super League at the GMC Balayogi Stadium, Hyderabad on Wednesday.
Udanta Singh and Iker Guarrotxena scored in the first half for the Gaurs to give all three points to their team.
Meanwhile, the Nizams took 10 shots off target whereas the home team attempted seven shots on target. Singto was disappointed that they could not find the back of the net despite so many chances.
“Yeah, I think we had 20 or 21 shots, maybe 23, I don’t know. And seven was on target. But the chances which, the last part of the game where we crossed and Allan (Paulista) tried, I think those half chances we didn’t take it. And of course, the goalkeeper (Hrithik Tiwari), I think he made seven saves. That shows us that we are, I told the boys that we have to be taking shots and get numbers there in the box and it happened. But it’s about the finesse, it’s about the clinicality,” Singto said in the post-match press conference.
The Indian coach admitted their errors were costly and it led to the downfall of their team.
“They (players) were told that we’ve got to be a little bit tough on the situation, 1v1. But we lost the ball in the midfield and it was countered. And the second goal again, I think it was from our mistake again… I think this is difficult because I’m not sure how we can bring the best out of the boys at the moment. Because we had a lot of changes at the moment.” he explained.
Singto rued the fact that they could not find the back of the net despite decent performances from his players.
“Did we miss Alex (Saji)? I think not much, as (Mohammed) Rafi stood up quite well. Soyal (Joshy) came in and did a good job.. But we haven’t been able to put the ball in the goal. That’s the story.”
Hyderabad FC has managed a solitary win in their last five games and Singto acknowledged that nothing is working for them.
“When things don’t work, I think you have to change something. That’s why, well, in terms of personnel, we have the same players. So we just have to look at what will work for us. But again, even today, we played with two strikers, and things have really happened. So we have to see what we can do. We have a few days to work before we play Chennaiyin FC. Because at the moment, nothing is working in the field.”
Hyderabad FC will next take on Chennaiyin FC at the Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium, Chennai on Wednesday.
